Co-applicants and guarantors
How people applying together appear on an application, what each one shares, and deciding about one person.
Renters can apply together with co-applicants (who will live in the home) and guarantors (who back the lease but won’t live there).
What you see
Each application lists everyone by role: primary applicant, “Co-applicant 2”, “Guarantor”. Each person decides for themselves what you see and for how long, and can stop sharing. Their status shows whether they haven’t shared yet, are sharing, stopped sharing, their sharing expired, or they’re no longer on the application.
Background checks for each person
Each person authorizes their own check. For each one, choose Ask to authorize a background check, then Order background check once they agree, then See the result and decide.
Deciding about one person
If one person’s result means you can’t accept them, you can:
- not accept that person, and ask the primary applicant for someone else
- go on with the application without them
- decline the whole application
If a report informed your decision about that person, their adverse action notice goes only to them. The primary applicant never sees it.
When your access ends
Your access to someone’s details ends when they stop sharing, are taken off the application, leave the household, or when the application is withdrawn or expires.
